Free Establishment

Free establishment allows a business to operate stably in another EU country, including opening a branch or subsidiary. The business must comply with local regulations, including registration with the relevant authorities and adherence to tax and social laws.


Conditions for Free Establishment

European automotive experts can freely establish themselves in Belgium by meeting the following conditions, as per the law of May 15, 2007, regarding automotive expertise:

  • Registration: Experts must register with the business register.
  • Supporting Documents: Provide necessary documents, including diplomas and certifications.
  • Qualifications: Hold required diplomas and certifications according to Belgian standards.
  • Experience: Have sufficient professional experience.
  • Membership: Register with the Institute of Automotive Experts.
  • Compliance: Adhere to professional and ethical standards.


Costs

The application is free. Members pay an annual fee, currently set at 950 euros for individuals, 350 euros for legal entities, and 250 euros for trainees.


Processing Time

Applications for admission to the Institute of Automotive Experts will be processed within 2 months after receipt of a complete file. This timeframe may vary depending on the complexity of the application.


Appeal in Case of Refusal

Any decision by one of the chambers of the Institute’s Council refusing admission to a candidate may be appealed by the individual before the appeal committee.

Be-Assist is an assistance centre which assists citizens originating from Member States in exercising their rights conferred by Directive 2005/36/EC concerning the recognition of professional qualifications.
